History

What…

WAS. Formed in 1997 by a group of friends who were passionate about film, the Loyola Film Circle grew to be a community of film lovers, makers, and critics in the Ateneo. LFC eventually fostered this passion for cinema through activities and events such as screenings, workshops, forums, and competitions.

Through the years, the community has held numerous screenings for independent, mainstream, and classic films from the local and international industry.

The organization has also produced some of the groundbreaking directors of today like Sherad Sanchez, Bobbi Bonifacio, and its current moderator, Quark Henares. Likewise, LFC has been home to different production groups like Steady Bears and SPORKforSHORT.

IS. LFC is one of the most active student organizations within the film community. Now in its 12th year, the organization continues to foster a film culture that values the power of cinema beyond commodity and aesthetics; as it promotes artistic excellence, film literacy, and social discourse.

LFC currently houses a number of student film production groups like Shadow-Light productions. A number of short films ranging from narratives, music videos, experimental, and PSAs are produced yearly.

It is also the home of FL!CK, the first and only student-run semi-academic film magazine in the country.

Moreover, LFC runs the Ateneo Video Open. Now in its 11th year, AVO is the longest running national student film competition in the Philippines.

WILL BE. This year, LFC celebrates its glorious past, continues to strive for its vision-mission, and strengthens its foundation for grander years ahead.

With a mix of old projects, new events, and revamped old ones – the 12th year of LFC is sure to be a milestone.

At the end of the day, LFC is a community of individuals who share the same passion for film. A community of amazing people building relationships that goes beyond the end of the credits.
